TIMBERLAND AND GREEN NETWORK REFOREST CHINA'S HORQIN DESERT

Since 2001, Timberland has partnered with Japanese NGO, Green Network, to improve poor air quality in Japan that is impacted by sandstorms originating from a desert in China. A once verdant grassland in China’s Inner Mongolia had become a sandy desert (now known as the Horqin Desert) due to overpopulation and misuse of land. Green Network’s vision was to restore the Horqin Desert of Inner Mongolia back to grassland by planting trees and grasses and working with the local community members to use the land more sustainably.

Since 2001, Timberland volunteers have made an annual trek to the Horqin Desert to plant trees to support Green Network’s year-round work to restore the grasslands and positively impact the environment and the local communities. In 2015, Timberland volunteers planted their two millionth tree in the desert. Learn more about our work in China. Watch the video and see the difference we’ve made.
