GOING GREEN CAN START WITH YOUR CLOSET

As Earth Day approaches, we surveyed 1,000 men and women in the US to understand how the idea of “being green” influences their clothing purchase choices. Overall, two-out-of-three men and women said they cared at least a little about eco-conscious fashion, with more than half saying that at least some of their wardrobe was eco-conscious.

And great news for everyone looking for eco-additions to their closet–Timberland has lots of options for you.

LOOK GOOD. FEEL GOOD. DO GOOD.

Two-in-five of those surveyed said they are motivated to buy eco-conscious fashions because it makes them feel good when they buy something that helps a cause. Does this sound like you? You might be interested in our 6” Thread Boot. These boots are made with Thread Ground to Good™ fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles reclaimed from Haiti and Honduras. Thread creates jobs that lead to people cleaning up their communities and creating products while they’re at it. MAKE YOUR #OOTD GREEN.

Almost 30% of men say they buy eco-conscious clothes because they want other people to know they care about the environment. And, 17% of guys like to post their eco-conscious styles to social media. Gotta get those likes! The styles below are what our fans have double-tapped the most – so if you’re after that social cred, you might want to post these styles to your ‘gram.

MATERIAL GIRLS (AND BOYS!)

While lots of things differed between the guys and the ladies in this survey – one thing they agreed on was the types of materials they seek when shopping for eco-fashion. 47% opt for organic cotton (shout out to the Men's Shelburne Twill Bomber Jacket); 34% seek out renewable materials (try Polarized Plastic Round Frame Sunglasses and the Women’s Waterproof Trench Coat); and 30% look for recycled PET (hello, Women’s FlyRoam™ Go Knit Oxford Shoes).

SPRING CLEANING: OUT WITH THE OLD. IN WITH THE NEW.

With spring (finally) in the air – it’s the perfect time to kick off that spring cleaning. And we think you should start with your closet. 70% of our survey-takers said that donating to charity is the #1 way to get rid of their older clothing that they no longer wear or plan to wear. And, we’re making it one step easier to donate your clothes. Check out our Community Recycling program (PS – this is also how you score 10% off).

GO GREEN FOR EARTH DAY.

Nearly 80% of the men and women we surveyed said they wish brands and retailers would sell more clothing options that are better for the environment. Lucky for them, Timberland makes it easy to go green this Earth Day (and everyday) with shoes, jackets, and bags that make you look as good as you’ll feel. By wearing them, you’re making a positive impact on the environment in which we live.
