Expert Advice: Day to Night

Efficiency + Versatility

In our style column, menswear blogger David Ou shows us how he wears the Britton Hill Mixed-Media Chukka Boots and the Brook Park Suede Oxfords.

Efficiency and versatility are two words you'll hear me preach a lot. So it was very fitting that Timberland challenged me to take an outfit from day to night. I like to have a put-together look without spending too much time in front of the mirror. The key is owning pieces that you can both dress up and dress down. Everyone has their own approach, but this week, I'm taking you guys through my thought process for coming up with a killer look that will take you from coffee run to date night.

Working backwards, we had reservations for a nice dinner in the city. Knowing this, I threw on the Allendale Chambray Shirt that goes well with both casual and more tailored looks. Living in the Bay Area, days generally start off cold so I layered on the Mount Davis M65 Waxed Jacket. I topped off my morning fit with the more rugged Britton Hill Mixed-Media Chukka. All set, I headed out for a day of coffee and some gallery hopping before dinner.

As evening approached, I made a quick pit stop back at home to shed off some layers and to dress up my morning look. I swapped out my day chukkas for these suede Brook Park Oxfords and threw on dark pants and a cotton blazer over the same chambray shirt for a much cleaner look. I was in and out of the house within 10 minutes wasting no time to grab drinks and make it to our reservation.

Looking your absolute best for every situation is important, but you don't want to spend too much time doing it. Streamlining your closet with versatile pieces will leave you feeling great in your clothes and give you a sense of accomplishment. Now get dressed because you have places to go and people to see. Cheers!
